If you are reading this, you survived March Madness. The month of March was once again crazy and a success for many of our members. The fun began with the Knoxville Mini Con. Robert Sienko and a few brave souls went to the show in Knoxville. They brought back some hardware and represented the club very well. The usual suspects went the same weekend to the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance and were treated to some incredibly beautiful automobiles. The next show was the ACME “West” show The Birmingham Classic held in Anniston, Alabama by our friends the Magic City Car Modelers. Once again many of our members went and found “Treasure” and claimed some awards. The last event for March was our very own Hobbytown in Kennesaw had their model show and swap meet on a rainy Saturday. I believe a few of our members brought home some hardware. A few ACME members also hit the Auto Show at the Congress Center, getting to sit in the new Corvette, the Camaro ZL1, and to see the new 2015 Mustang. That is the wrap-up for March, but April has just as many events.
April show events begin this very Saturday, the day before our meeting. The Birmingham chapter of IPMS, the Phantom Plashers, is having their annual show spring show at the Anniston City Meeting Center. Saturday is also the big car show at Coker Tires/Honest Charley’s in Chattanooga, and if you really like to dig for car parts, automobilia, used collector vehicles and generally wear out your sneakers, the Auto Fair is going on in Charlotte at the speedway from April 3-6. Sunday morning is the Caffeine and Octane car show. If you want to show your ride, get there before 7 AM. With the warming temps everyone is going to be wanting to dust off their cool rides.
Thanks to Scott, this website is back up and running. Watch for future updates, but the basics are already in place with meeting and show information. The forum is gone, unless anyone knows someone who is a database admin who will work for free and can fix the myriad of issues from the hacker. Most people online have migrated to the Facebook juggernaut, and activity on our Facebook page is high. We are getting several new members joining the ACME Facebook page every day.
Our club meeting this weekend is at 2:30 pm Sunday at the Smyrna Community Center. This month’s theme is always a popular one with the club members. Yes, Virginia it the Spring Cleaning event! Bring your old and busted, parts of parts, stalled projects that you’ve lost interest in, tools that need a new home, anything that you might think another club member might like to take home. “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure”. We will once again this year have a drawing to see who gets 1st crack at the loot; when you get to the meeting, drop off your giveaway stuff and exit the area. There will also be a time limit. We will go over the rules at the meeting to make sure we are all on the same page. The end of the month is the Granddaddy of all model car shows, the NNL East in Wayne, New Jersey. A few ACME members are planning to make the pilgrimage north, so give them your wish list and some cash and see if they can pick up that kit or aftermarket part you have been looking for.
I look forward to seeing you this Sunday at 2:30 pm for a fun filled meeting!
I am your ACME president,
Henry Trent
